Not everything that comes from Texas has to be bad! Austin Mama is a real mother of a website, packed with essays, articles, art and advice from hip crew of Lone State mamas who’ve built a cozy little clubhouse on their corner of the web.

You gotta give the brave women at La Leche credit for all the hard work they’ve done advocating for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. This massive site is full of general breastfeeding news and information as well as contacts for LLL groups in your hometown and around the world. If you ever have a nursing emergency, you can also find a real, live nursing mother in your area who can help talk you down from the ledge. Talk about amazing.

Even if you don’t live in California, you can still pay a visit to The Pump Station, the first breastfeeding superstore. But it’s not just commerce: This web site provides sound information about nursing, as well as an easy online way to purchase bras, clothing and equipment. While you’re there, check out the funky latch-on video.

I can’t say enough about these gorgeous cotton/lycra nursing tanks! These are a dream come true (for the moderate-to-modestly endowed mama, at least). I wear them all the time. And when I’m finally done nursing, I’m afraid it will be hard to give them up.

This site has links to some of his papers, and essential information about the safety of breastfeeding and medications. The truly amazing thing is he’ll answer your breastfeeding questions if you send him an email.

The original mama zine keeps going strong, with its trademark funky, mamacentric perspective. Founder Ariel Gore has become a respected author and parenting expert, and she deserves much of the credit for reminding everyone out there that motherhood remains a valid career choice.
